My Personal Story

I have lived in Maryland for 22 years, and 17 of those years have been in Charles County. I met my husband Rob at the young age of 22 and we've been together ever since. I often joke that I "Married Maryland," because I started my journey on the West Coast.

I was born in Southern California to an interracial family, a Black father and White mother. We struggled in poverty and my parents eventually separated. At the age of 10, Mom packed what she could and moved me and two siblings to Utah to live with her parents. I spent my formative years near Odgen where I thrived as a student, but found myself pregnant at the age of 17. I was given a choice at the time, and I Chose Life! I continued my education and served as Senior Class Vice President while pregnant. Choosing Life would be the catalyst to many successes. A job opportunity would bring my family to Maryland, where I was determined to pursue college. I applied to the Univeristy of Maryland, College Park and was accepted into the Theatre Department. I worked nights, studied, and often had my daughter in classes alongside me, when she wasn't attending the campus pre-school. I am proud to be a first generation college graduate. I've been happily married for over 17 years, and now have three daughters and three sons.

I currently own and operate three businesses while sitting on multiple non-profit boards as a director, co-chair, or advisor. I serve my local community as the HOA President and I am the Director of Programs for the local Theatre. As as Christian I served as a Youth Minister for a generation. I operate a Homeschooling Center and work as an advisor and advocate for homeschoolers. My remodeling company has had the privilage of renovoting two Charles County Women's Shelters in 2020 and 2022. I look forward to serving my community and state as the next Senator of Charles County.

Putting My Experience
to Work

"You are not promised tomorrow, so every day is another opportunity to accomplish all that you can."

I Support Parents & School Choice!

After experiencing some of the poor practices and short comings of the Charles County Public Schools, I made the decision to educate at home. I have homeschooled all of my children for the past eleven years. I dedicated nine years to helping other parents teach their children by operating two homeschooling centers. With limited options and failing schools, often parents are left with little choice. We have an inconsistant educational system that our tax dollars are paying for. I know we can do better, which is why I support parents and school choice.

I Support Business

In 2008, My husband Rob and I created MAK Remodeling Services, while he worked at WMATA (Metro). I have the experience of building a company from the ground up. When you dedicate your life and finances to bring a product or service to your community, then I believe you are an Essential Business! We operate our company full time and understand the struggles of businessownership. I realize the burden of high taxes, wages, safety, operating costs, and all that comes with running your company. I am pro-business and will fight for low taxes and more opportunities for companies large and small.

Community is Key

I received my BFA from UMD, College Park in 2007, and went on to establish a local Children's Theatre Company. My theater company lead me to the Black Box Theatre in Indian Head, Maryland. After performing on their stage, I saw the value of local outreah. I am now the current Vice Chair of the Indian Head Center for the Arts, Black Box Theatre. As of 2021,we partnered with the College of Southern Maryland Performing Arts Department to bring free and affordable programs and performances to the community.
